Some people may be wondering, why only put music out on this site? Because, where else is better than a site you own and have total control over? Like I mentioned in my radio update, as artists, we need to stop building up platforms such as radio stations and websites that don't financially support the Djs and musical artists who put their time and hard work into producing content for them. We all want to get out there, and some free promotion every once in a while is a good thing, especially when you're trying to build a fanbase.
Once you've proven your worth tho, its up to them if they want to keep you around. If they can't make it worth your time, please move on. We also need to stop supporting platforms that don't have the best interest in hip hop, and instead just use it as "content" or a consider it a "genre". Stop letting these stations, sites, and promoters decide what's hip hop.
In today's age in music, we all feel like we're independent, but are we really? When we rely on streaming platforms and distributors to get our music out there. We say we don't need a record label, but these streaming platforms and distributors have become just that. Without them, you feel like you can't reach big numbers. Well, the truth is, you can. And you can actually benefit and get what you deserve for your music. We all spend too much time and money to be making another company all the profits, while we think we did a good job gettin' our "numbers up".
Speaking of numbers, those are all a joke. Numbers can be faked, and since when did views and amount of listens equal quality. What if a song is just put out and has no views? Does that make it less good. Think about it. Some of the most "popular" music sucks. Some of my favorite songs are unknown to the masses. I think it makes it even better. Once certain people get a hold of something, the original meaning to the intended audience gets diluted.
So the lesson of the day: do it yourself. I can put out music when I want, how I want, make it free if I want, charge for downloads, change things on the site whenever without asking for permission from anybody. If they don't wanna play fair, why should I?
