It's Mothers Day. So shout out to my Mom, and all the Mothers out there. All the potential mothers and all the women of the world. The queens of the universe.
I think we need to appreciate women all the time, not just on mothers day. Myself included.
As a rapper, we get a bad rep when it comes to women and hip hop. Yet hip hop has always been very pro women. Strong women. Queen Latifahs, MC Lytes, MC Debbie D, Sha La Rock, Roxanne Shante, Yo Yo, Missy Elliot, Eve,... You get the point. Even females MCs like Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim brought their own version of lady power.
While some people think sexual lyrics may be anti-women, its really just another topic and part of life. If the women uses her looks and sexual powers to get what she wants, why not? It's not the only route tho. Hip hop is too one sided.
As a man, of course we lust for women. They say lust is a sin, but how did your dad meet your mom? They were just in love all the sudden? They say love at first sight. Sight. Looks. Physical attraction. My point is, we are wired to think women look good. Women think women look good. That's why women are more marketable. Not sayin they're goods you get it tho.
Who is the enemy of women? If you said men.... You're wrong. Well... Kinda right. But also wrong. The enemy of the woman is herself. Herself as in personally and as in women as a gender. If one side of "feminism' says you should cover up and the other side says free the body. Then who are they argueing with? Man has no say. Let's be real, men can't get women to do shit, they don't want to. That's why men have to use physical strength. And even then, I think most men get beat up by their girls in secret.
Women are the creators of life. Men can't give birth. If Jesus was the son of God, is Mary God?
I know Mary is not the physical GOD, but we are all Gods. Ye are gods. Life starts in the womb. (Well technically in the man, but those are not all supposed to make it.)
Mary is not the physical mother of God, and Jesus is not the physical son of God. And I know its Father, Son, Holy Spirit. My point is, why don't we give more credit to the mother of our messiah? Sure, certain culture put more emphisis on the vigin Mary. Statues, which I don't really agree with worshipping humans, or statues, we need to worship women all a whole. Not worship is bowing down. Worship as in treating them right.
Again, sure hip hop has some lyrics that could be considered anti women. There are also lyrics that could be anti-anything. Women talk shit on men, its hip hop. There are also a lot of great songs that give praises to the ladies. Maybe they don't get promoted enough? Na, the radio is fulla lady songs. I think people don't focus on the positive and only remember the bad. They don't remember the times Snoop shouts out his wife. They only remember "slap a ho"
Speaking of Snoop and him slappin hoes, lets be real. He's married with a wife. Not saying he perfect, lets think about it tho. Most rappers like Snoop, LL, Ja Rule, all rap about women in parties and livin' a player lifestyle, pimpin, and who knows if any of that is true. What we know is they are married with kids. And have been to the same woman too. No 2,3,4,5 baby mamas. (Love n Hip Hop lookin at you...)
Meanwhile, Chris Brown who makes lady love songs, is a known woman beater... So I think people live opposite on records. Or... I think people have sides. Moods. Emotions. If I make every song about lusting women, that's frontin. If I never mention them tho, that's frontin too. I'm only a man. I rap about what's on my mind. We need to learn how to balance it tho.
It's up to the ladies to speak for themselves. I rap from a man's (mine) perspective. Ladies need to rap from their heart and soul and say what they want. Whatever it be.
Shout out to my mom; my sister, who's a mother to my niece; and all the ladies out there. Rip to my Grandma Phyllis, who I'm named after. And Rip to my Grandma Taeko who my sister is named after. My family is more a women family. Even tho my Grandpa Alex was the head of the fam, I think its to balance the feminine energy.
Shout out to all the ladies one more time. Got some tracks with the homegirl Birdie. The homie miguel and his wife wendy bout to have another baby (A boy this time). Congrats. DJ Glow Cat just had a boy. Congrats. And to all the mothers. Thanks.
